February 2012 update: Gravity Ltd.(GRVY)

February 11, 2012

Gravity ADRs are up 45% year-to-date on  significantly increased volume. What’s up? No news or press releases have come out, but most likely the increase has to do with the closed beta testing of Ragnarok 2 in December and January and the open beta testing scheduled for February 22. If all goes well, and we know from experience that history is against us on this one, we could even see a public launch of the game in selected markets (say Korea and Japan) by the end of the first quarter or sometime in the second. This would mark a major step forward for the company after 4 years of delays.

There is still considerable upside potential in the ADRs (Jae Jun reflects on it here), and long-suffering holders of this former net-net may yet see their investment thesis vindicated. If we’re lucky we’ll soon get to face the most difficult of all questions, when to sell. I’m hoping that for me this won’t happen until I can lock in long-term capital gains treatment next October.;I think you all know how averse I am to paying short-term capital gains tax!
